About us
Our purpose
The purpose of CHARIS Homeschool Support Group is to provide support for Christian
parents who are teaching their children at home and to provide opportunities for
homeschoolers to interact through social activities and learning experiences, including a
weekly co-op for members who choose to join. We seek to glorify God by encouraging
biblical home discipleship and training up the next generation to serve Jesus Christ.
Our history
CHARIS, which began in 1986 under the name Kane County Christian Home
Schoolers, originally formed when a small group of families desired to provide their
children with a Christian education at home. Now 35 years later, approximately 80
families enjoy meeting and encouraging one another on their home discipleship journey.
Our statement of faith
The Bible is the inspired and infallible Word of God and constitutes complete and final
revelation. The Bible, in its original autograph, is without error in whole and in part:
including theological concepts as well as geographical and historical details.
God has existed from all eternity in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and
God the Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ was God in human flesh, being fully God and fully man except without sin.
All men are in violation of God's righteous requirements and His Holy character both by
nature and act; and are therefore under His wrath and just condemnation. The central
purpose of the coming of Jesus Christ was to pay the penalty for man's sin through His
substitutionary death on the cross—the successful accomplishment of which was
attested to by His subsequent visible, bodily resurrection.
Salvation is a free gift, free to the sinner. This gift must be responded to in an individual
faith, not trusting in any personal works whatsoever but the sacrificial death of Jesus
Christ alone.
Marriage is ordained by God, is between one man and one woman as set forth in the
Bible, and is intended to be a picture of Jesus Christ and the Church.
